Meet the Founders
Q&A With the Founders of Coriaria
Brent & Michelle are the married co-founders of Coriaria, LLC. They are madly, deeply in love (by choice) and are committed to living intentionally with their family. Learn more about them with this Q&A:
What is Brent’s background?
I have been obsessed with startup ideas since I was eight, when I charged my neighbors $5 a month to pick up their recycling. Since then, I have taught kids to code, consulted, built and scaled teams and companies, and written a few apps (including Coriaria’s free apps). I graduated from Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Business with a master’s degree in Information Systems. When I’m not working on Coriaria, I love spending time with our family and traveling. I served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Czech and Slovak Republics (Ahoj!). Although I am excited about Coriaria’s mission and objectives, I really see it as an excuse to stay up too late hanging out with Michelle.
What is Michelle’s background?
I first and foremost am a stay-at-home wife and mother and couldn’t be more grateful that I get the opportunity to do so. I received my bachelor’s of sociology with a minor in international development from Brigham Young University. I love traveling, serving, and creating. I have traveled to several countries doing service projects such as Fiji where I worked on septic tanks, Iceland where I studied family structure, Mexico where we worked on rebuilding homes, and Hungary where I served a religious mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I’ve also served and worked with children with special needs in various capacities locally. Several of our products are inspired by the needs I saw for the families I worked with in all of these different settings. I absolutely love working on Coriaria with my best friend and hope to be able to serve and help families in the process.
How did you meet?
We met at a backyard BBQ where we talked briefly about our European adventures. A few weeks later was our first date to pizza and a comedy show. We stayed casual friends after that, spending nights between work and studies to play children’s games like hopscotch and strum on the Ukulele. Eventually, on New Year’s day to be precise, we decided to take our friendship more seriously. We dated for several months and then made our friendship permanently official when we got married in September of that year. We are still getting to know each other more every day and we’re excited to continue this journey together.
Why did you found Coriaria?
We have always loved serving and trying to intentionally do good in the world. We are both entrepreneurs at heart and we would often talk on long drives or late at night about what we could create that would make the biggest impact. Through international service, religious beliefs, personal experience, and cultural observation, we came to one conclusion: The best way to improve the world is to improve and strengthen families. And so, Coriaria was born. Coriaria became the creative outlet for us to experiment with various apps and product ideas that we believe can benefit families. We continue to love working together on these new ideas and growing Coriaria with the help of so many family-focused fans (thank you!).
